Born in 1961 Kate Thomson is a Scottish sculptor who has been working internationally for the last 25 years. After graduating in Fine Art from Newcastle University, she worked as a community artist in Glasgow. In 1989 she was a Founding Director of the Glasgow Sculpture Studios, before starting to work on site-specific public sculptures for parks, gardens, and buildings all over the world.
Her work is in many public collections, including Iwate Museum of Art, Tokyo University and the British Embassy in Tokyo.
She is now working between two studios in Edinburgh and Japan making large scale public commissions and exhibiting internationally.
Kate Thomson’s work is abstracted from the human form and landscape, exploring relationships in physical, cultural and social space.
“I would like to invite other people to explore and enjoy my sculpture to gain a similar opportunity to the one I have while I am working: Learning how to play again while exploring the world, our relationships with each other and our environment, to discover a sense of wonder.”
